SmartFlex Events
Timing
Timing
SmartFlex Events can be scheduled year round. SmartFlex Events typically take place anytime between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, and typically last up to four hours. SmartFlex Rewards Program will also heat/cool your home before and after the actual event hours to ensure you stay comfortable all day.
SmartFlex Events will not be scheduled on holidays, except in the event of a demand emergency (that is, when unexpected events like extreme weather or power plant outages lead to decreased energy supply).

Notifications
Notifications
Whenever a SmartFlex Event is scheduled, we'll send you an email with the date and start and end times. These emails will typically be sent 24 hours before the event begins (except in the case of an emergency event, which may be scheduled on short notice). We will also email you if the event is cancelled or modified.
You can unsubscribe from these emails and other SmartFlex Rewards Program emails in the footer of any email. This will not unsubscribe you from other PG&E communications, and it will not opt you out of participating in SmartFlex Events.
During the event, your thermostat and thermostat app will display a notification to show it is taking place. These notifications will reflect your thermostat brand's terminology (e.g., "Energy Rush Hour," "Community Savings Event," "Energy Savings Event,", "SmartFlex Event", etc.).

Comfort & control
Comfort & control
During SmartFlex Events, your thermostat schedule will stay within a few degrees of its usual settings. As long as you've created a thermostat schedule that accurately reflects your preferences, you should stay comfortable.
To help ensure there is enough energy for everyone, we ask you to try not to touch your thermostat during the SmartFlex Event or during pre-cooling. However, if you need to change your temperature during an event day, you can. Remember, you will always maintain control of your devices and we'll always keep your information private.

Emergency events
Emergency events
On rare days when extreme weather conditions or power plant outages cause a sudden surge in energy demand (or a decrease in supply), we may need to schedule a SmartFlex Event on short notice. We'll alert you about these emergency events as much in advance as possible. However, there may not be time to cool or heat your home in advance as much as usual.
Your participation in an emergency SmartFlex Event is essential to protecting your community’s wellbeing and safety, ensuring there’s enough energy for everyone’s needs. We sincerely thank you for your understanding and cooperation when these unusual circumstances arise.
